Ryszard Cieplechowicz: how the 132 ZCTAs were selected

One selection rule is shared by all three Tampa Bay studies, so the tables can be joined.

1. Start from the 2020 Census ZCTA-to-county relationship file.
2. Assign each ZCTA to the county where it has the largest share of land area: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco or Hernando.
3. Keep ZCTAs with at least 500 residents.

That leaves 132: 53 in Hillsborough, 47 in Pinellas, 23 in Pasco and nine in Hernando.

Data come from the Census Bureau ACS 2020-2024 five-year release, retrieved through Census Reporter. Census Reporter is the access layer, not the author. Build code is on GitHub, linked from datasets and downloads.

What this does not cover

It is not every county address, and it is not a countywide estimate.
