Ryszard Cieplechowicz: seasonal versus for-rent vacancy
"Vacant" in the Census survey is not the same as "available to rent."
ACS table B25004 sorts vacant units into seven statuses. Two matter most in Tampa Bay: units for rent, and units held for seasonal, recreational or occasional use.
What each one means
- For rent: the unit was offered for rent when the survey asked.
- Seasonal, recreational or occasional use: the unit is kept for part-year use. That does not mean anyone can rent it.
In the selected ZCTAs the study found 44.1% of vacant units in the seasonal group and 18.0% for rent. Both are survey-period counts, not current listings. See the vacancy study summary.
